Checking in to Wander The Resort

One of the most hotly anticipated new vacation experiences in Ontario just opened its doors, and spoiler: it lives up to the hype. Located right in between the cute towns of Wellington and Bloomfield in Prince Edward County, Wander the Resort is a dreamy getaway spot in the heart of wine country. Here are just a few of the reasons why this resort reinvents vacationing in Ontario.

*before you read on, just a note that Wander is currently sold out for 2021, but some dates in 2022 are still available. Plus, keep an eye on their Instagram for beach day passes and other ways you can access the resort earlier.

  1. The Cabins

If you are the kind of person that believes there is no such thing as too many throw pillows then you’ve found your happy place at Wander. The main living area features a lounge area that is straight off a Pinterest mood board, but is also welcoming enough that you can imagine taking a relaxing nap here. We stayed in the poolside cabin, which has a big common space, two bedrooms and sleeps five. The Wander team have thought of everything to make the cabins super comfortable, from Obasan mattresses, to Endy duvets even down to bath amenities from local businesses like Sunday’s Company. Cabins also have outdoor showers, perfect for rinsing off after the beach.

2. The Family Friendly touches

While the two bedroom cabins would be perfect (and cost efficient!) for a group of friends or couples travelling, the set up is also excellent for a family vacation that kids and grown ups will enjoy. From the bunk bed in the second bedroom to the kid-friendly dishes, playpens, child-sized robes, room darkening blinds and even down to the beach toys that are available through the concierge, Wander has thought of all the details that make vacationing with little ones just that little bit easier. Bonus: if you have a fur baby, Wander’s poolside cabins are also pet friendly!

3. The Beach

It’s no secret that one of Prince Edward County’s most beautiful beaches (Sandbanks) gets pretty busy in the summer, so if you don’t feel like facing the crowds the private beach at Wander is the perfect solution. Comfy loungers, live music and a food truck all set the vibe here perfectly. While the swimming area is a little rocky, if you bring some water shoes it’s no problem getting in and out. If you are more of a pool person one is in progress and is sure to be equally amazing.

4. The Local Food

If you aren’t quite ready to head out to a restaurant after a year of lockdowns, or just feel like staying in, it’s super easy (and enjoyable) to bring the flavours of the county to your cabin. Order your groceries to be delivered ahead of time from Bloomfield Public Market and/or select a meal kit from a local restaurant (we chose Italian from Piccolina). In the coming months the Clubhouse on-site will also be an option for a coffee and snacks. And of course don’t forget to pick up a few bottles of PEC wine to enjoy with your meal.

5. The Evening Vibes

Pair a sunset with a campfire and some s’mores and you’ve got a pretty much a perfect Canadian summer night. Each cabin at Wander has their own fire on the deck, or you can head down to the water where campfires are lit each evening. Your cabin has marshmallow roasting sticks and you’ll find s’mores kits down by the water. Doesn’t get much better than that.

6. The extra touches

The icing on the cake at Wander is all the thoughtful extra details which make this a truly memorable stay. Pottery in all cabins from local potter the Ye11ow Studio, the bottle of local wine provided at check in, strawberry jam and milk left for you in your fridge for easy breakfast add ons, a sauna by the water, the instamax cameras and film to document your stay in a cute retro way, the Dyson hair dryer & on and on. These thoughtful touches make a Wander weekend feel like an truly special getaway.

Ready to visit? If you are lucky enough to have snagged a summer 2021 reservation you are in for a treat, but a winter trip in 2022 would also be well worth it too. The cosy fireplace, outdoor dining pods and snowshoes that rumour has it are available have this on the list for a year round Ontario getaway.
