Vacationing in Scottsdale

Vacationing in Scottsdale

Scottsdale had been on my vacation radar for the past few years, thanks to the reasonably priced direct flights to Phoenix. After a inspiring night at Travel Massive Toronto hosted by Visit Phoenix, I was fully sold on this Arizona city as my next trip destination, and just like that a January girls trip to Scottsdale was booked - for $350 return on Air Canada Rouge no less! We spent four nights exploring the city and the surrounding area. Here are my picks for the must-sees (and must-sips!) on your visit you Scottsdale.

What to Do

Vist the Desert Botanical Garden

While this might not be the most obvious top on a girls trip, this spot is full of the succulents you see all over Instagram in their natural environment, and provided that greenery we were craving in the middle of a long Canadian winter. Even better, your ticket gets you in to the Electric Desert exhibit which happens after hours. Don’t miss their super cute gift shop!

Tour Old Town Scottsdale

Hop on a Bird and explore Old Town - from historic buildings, cute shops (still regretting a $7 Mexican blanket I didn’t buy) and lots of sculptures and surprises tucked around every corner, spend an afternoon here. Then stick around for happy hour! (More on that later)

Take a day trip to Sedona

I’ve been known to cram a 4 hour each way drive into a “day trip” which is great in theory, but kind of kills the relaxing vibe of a trip. Luckily, Sedona is just a two hour drive each way from Phoenix, leaving plenty of time for a hike of two, and still get back in time for poolside wine!

Where to stay

Hotel Adeline

This hotel has it all: an epic pool, a restaurant, cafe and secret wiskey bar, outdoor fireplaces and instagramable moments everywhere. Not to mention the price is reasonable too! A few tips if you decide to stay here. The room we stayed in didn’t have a fridge, so grab some extra ice to keep your drinks chilled. We also found that four girls in one double room was a little crowded so would recommend booking two rooms for a group.

 The Scott Resort

Just down the road is The Scott Resort, otherwise known as a design magazine come to life. We didn’t stay here this time, but walked over for happy hour at Canal Club a couple times, and loved the vibe here. Definitely worth adding to the next trip list!

Where to eat

Farm & Craft

In a city where a delicious avocado toast is around every corner, you really can’t go wrong with where you choose to eat. We absolutely loved the fresh bowls, breakfast wraps and lattes at Farm and Craft, and started 2 out of our 4 days here.

Diego Pops

Believe the hype - this place is perfection, and has great happy hour deals too! We had one or two margaritas here, topped off with half price appetizers, and of course tacos.

The Sugar Bowl

Right out of the pages of the Family Circus cartoon, this dessert spot celebrates sweet treats, nostalgia, and all things pink.

All in all the perfect long weekend. Cheers to Scottsdale!
